So, who is Judith Redline Coopey and why should I read her books? Well, I’m a steadfast daughter of Pennsylvania, descended from Quakers and sturdy German stock, who writes books–good ones–about American history. I taught history for – twenty-two years, and I love it–all kinds, all places, all eras. I don’t care whose history or what history, I just love finding out more about how things came to be. I’m married–a mother of two and a grandmother of two more. I’ve written eight historical novels so far, along with some non-fiction, and a few YA books, and I plan to stop sometime around the twelfth of never. So welcome to the website. Look it over and keep coming back. Hopefully, you’ll find something to inform, educate or entertain you. Or maybe you’ll just get to know me, which would be fun, coming and going.
“The nuns use this as their measuring stick: who your people are. Well, what if you don’t have no people? Or any you know of? What then? Are you doomed?”
This is the nagging question of fifteen-year-old Nell’s life. Born with a cleft palate and left a foundling on the doorstep of a convent, she yearns to know her mother, whose name, she knows, was Jane.
When the Mother Superior tries to pawn her off to a mean-looking farmer and his beaten-down wife, Nell opts for the only alternative she can see: she runs away.
A chance encounter with a dime novel exhorting the exploits of Calamity Jane, heroine of the west, gives Nell the purpose of her life: to find Calamity Jane, whom Nell is convinced is her mother.

Great story about survivors of the Johnstown Flood and a small town newspaper business that carries on into the 1930"s. Interesting characters and a story that keeps you reading from chapter one till the last page. I don't like going into too much detail about the story and possibly taking away any element of enjoyment before one would start reading. I enjoyed this book very much!
Dig or Die is full of action and not without romance. It gives you a good feel for what WWI trench warfare was like, and the terrible casualties suffered when troops went "over the top."
The battles described are real ones, so you can read about them on the web or elsewhere to get an overall picture of what is going on.
Although the story is a novel, it seems clear that the author is describing his own experiences in the Great War.
I really enjoyed this trilogy. I've just finished the third book, and I felt compelled to write a recommendation. The books are historically accurate, well researched and the MacPhail family stories are well told. From pre-Civil War years to post WWII, this family comes to us as real, running the gamut of true emotions. Ms. Coopey instructs us in the baby steps of the iron industry in Pennsylvania and the growing of a family whose foundations are built on that industry. I learned a lot about an area and an occupation I wasn't familiar with through the lives of a family I grew to love.
I have read some of Ms Coopey's books before and really enjoyed them. But this one wasn't up to her other books. I can't say exactly why, but it was not as enjoyable.
I couldn't put the book down. I read it from sun up to sundown. It was compelling. I got lost in it. It made me laugh and cry, and rant and rail, and hold my husband hostage while I gave him an update on all that was happening. It made me use profanity which I'd stopped doing years ago. It held me captive. I was so glad to read this after attempting 3 other books that weren't worth my time. This author is fantastic. Why not 5 stars? Not because it doesn't deserve them. It deserves 6. You'll have to read it yourself to find out.
I liked everything about this book. One of the best I have ever read. I really like this author! First reading from your Amazon site.
This is a story of a Quaker family and their role in the Underground Railroad movement. There are a few surprising twists and turns in the story. I wonder how much of it has truth to it, and how much is fabricated. Either way, it is a very good read and I highly recommend it.
One of the best books ever! Great story line! Has a little of everything from adventure, conflict, love, and family relationships. Well done Judith Redline Coopey!
